Matco Calgary Walks for Miracles

This year Matco's Calgary branch was involved with the 4th annual "Wal-Mart Walk for Miracles”. As a group Matco Calgary raised $2,072.00 to go to the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

The ‘Walk for Miracles’ is just one of several events that support the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN), a not-for-profit organization in Canada and the US. There are 170 children’s hospitals that are affiliated with CMN and these hospitals treat over 17 million children every year.

The CMN was founded in 1983 by the Osmond family and John Schneider, and it raises over 200 million per year for the children’s hospitals.  Last year the “Walk for Miracles” raised $100,000 in Calgary alone, all of which stayed in the city itself. This money is used to buy new equipment and to fund groundbreaking research. Every year each hospital picks a champion child to represent their hospital.  When you listen to these children speak so eloquently about their disease it is difficult not to tear up.

Sha-Rae Tooley (Matco Calgary) would like to thank all who participated in the walk and all who sponsored walkers this year.  We now have a goal to beat for next year!

MATCO Yellowknife is proudly celebrating their 20th Anniversary

Matco Transportation Systems (Matco) will be celebrating their 20th anniversary in Yellowknife during the month of June 2008. Matco is a proud member of the community and feels strongly about contributing to local groups and events including the recent 2008 Arctic Winter Games.

Matco in conjunction with the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce will be holding our annual barbeque June 5, 2008 from 5 to 9 pm. This year our event is sure to be a wonderful time for all with great food and fantastic door prizes.

History

In January 1988, Ray Anderson visited Yellowknife. At the time Yellowknife was the centre of economic activity in the Northwest Territories and he knew that the possibilities were endless. Ray believed that Matco could provide customers with quality transportation services and 20 years later, the Yellowknife Branch continues to prosper.

"We're here to service communities."

"While challenges still exist with geography, climate and communication in the North, Matco Transportation Systems is resilient", said Wayne Wishloff – Vice President of Operations.

Matco has grown throughout the last 20 years and will continue to meet and change with the growing demands of the north.

2008 Arctic Winter Games Wrap-Up

The 2008 Arctic Winter Games (AWG) in Yellowknife were a huge success by all measures.  As an International Corporate Honor Sponsor, Matco Transportation Systems played an integral role in the transportation requirements of the games.   Matco transported beds, self-contained washrooms, main event tents and many pieces of equipment to and from Yellowknife just in time for the games.  Representatives from Matco Edmonton - Ray Anderson, Wayne Wishloff and Matt Greyeyes attended the games from March 9 to 15, 2008, and were pleased to present medals to the athletes in Wrestling.  Matco’s Yellowknife staff volunteered many hours for the AWGs and coordinated the athletes’ luggage and sport equipment transfers to and from the Yellowknife airport.

Thank you to all staff members who contributed to Matco’s professional and efficient work for the AWGs.  We have received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from the AWGs organizers and the Yellowknife community members.  Matco is proud to have supported “Northern Stars Inspired by Dreams” – the 2008 Arctic Winter Games.

March 25, 2008

Ray: We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for joining us in Yellowknife for the 2008 Arctic Winter Games.  Your continued support allows thousands of children to focus on healthy and positive sporting activities.  Your presence in Yellowknife allowed us and our volunteers to meet interesting and wonderful people and show off our amazing city.  You truly were “special” guests and we hope to see you again in Yellowknife – or at the next Arctic Winter Games 2010 in Grande Prairie Alberta.  Thank you for making our jobs so enjoyable!

NHL Edmonton Oilers give Matco Transportation Systems
1st Star Award for Excellent Logistical Efficiency

Edmonton Oilers 2007 Training Camp,
September 7-9,
Yellowknife, NWT

History was made in the North when the Edmonton Oilers brought their 2007 Rookie Camp to Yellowknife. It was the first time an NHL organization had ventured North of 60, and Matco Transportation Systems was delighted to donate its services in support of this amazing weekend.

Experts in transporting goods to and from the North, Matco ensured that all of the Oilers' hockey gear, luggage, sound/electrical equipment, training supplies and the fabulous Fanboni were transported professionally and efficiently between Yellowknife and Edmonton, Alberta.  "We were more than pleased to be involved in any way possible," said Matco's Corporate Sales Manager Leon Johnson.

Matco worked with an organizing committee of sponsors and three charities; Facilities for Kids, Champions for Children and KidSport, to deliver a full schedule of events.  The events included a sponsorship reception, school and hospital visits by the rookie players, on-ice rookie camp sessions, a coaching clinic involving the Oilers' scouting and coaching staff, a scouting hot stove, and a gala dinner with Edmonton Oiler guests of honor.  Profits from the weekend events were divided between the multiple charities with the main benefactors being Facilities for Kids and KidSport.  The funds raised help to ensure that northern youth are provided the opportunity to live a healthy lifestyle through sport.

The Edmonton Oilers organization and the rookies were embraced by Yellowknife's warmth and community spirit.  It was a truly unforgettable weekend.
